Du Fu (AD 712-770) is recognized as one of China's greatest poets. Du Fu lived during the Tang Dynasty (618-987, this time period coincides with the advancement of the Arab empire). Du Fu arrived in Chengdu during an uprising in 759. He spent the next four years of his life with his family living in a small hut overlooking the bamboo and plum tree lined Huanhua River. During his time in Chengdu, he wrote more than 240 poems contrasting the forces of nature with the turmoil of contemporary life.

After Du Fu's death the area became a garden; a temple was added during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1126).

This site also houses Chinese calligraphy, a tree garden, and an archeology dig that dates back to the Tang Dynasty. It is suggested to take your time exploring this park.

Du Fu's Thatched Cottage is serviced by the cities buses and the metro stop is a 15 minute walk.
