One of my big life savers is always a travel guide when traveling. There are numerous guides to use and each one is laid out in its own way.
When I look for a travel guide, I look for a book that not only lists places to see, places to stay, and places to eat, I look for a book that informs me of almost everything I might need to know.
As I prepared to live in China, I discovered three different guide books, each one has a different layout and offers different travel advise. It is always important to find the guide that fits you the best when traveling
I will caution that guide books that are not kept up to date are rendered useless in today's ever changing world.
If you are traveling and packing is an issue, most guides are designed where you can take out the pages you need and leave the rest at home or in your hotel. Take advantage of this so you aren't taking around a book that you might only need a 6 pages out of.
My favorite guide books:
Rick Steves: https://www.ricksteves.com
Fodors: https://www.fodors.com
Lonely Planet: https://shop.lonelyplanet.com/?gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlryR2oyn5AIVU8DICh289Q83EAAYASAAEgKvY_D_BwE
