One of my favorite parks to visit in Chengdu is the Bamboo Park. One of the most beautiful and serene parks in Chengdu, the Bamboo park plays host to multiple species of bamboo (270 species!). From American Gardens I could simply take two busses for less than a US dollar. A 45 minute bus ride gave me lots of time to enjoy a good book or listen to an album.

My first time visiting I was reading "Auntie Name: An Irreverent Escapade." As the bus wove it's way through the High Tech Zone to Tongzilin, I was afraid I might miss my stop! In fact, I accidentally got off the bus one stop early without realizing it!

Koi Fish Feeding

The serenity of the park was always a welcome thought. Long misreading paths around lakes and tea houses provided much inspiration for thoughts about everything. I remember seeing kids feeding koi fish. The experience stick with me to this day. The kids got a baby bottle tied to a stick and stuck it in the water for the fish to come and suck on the nipple. The sound made from just this simple act struck me a funny, not in the halliards way, but in a way of the innocence of childhood.

One of the amazing things is the boarders around the sidewalks. Bamboo is used in almost every aspect of landscaping here and the boarder hedges are no exception!

The bamboo is bigger than my grasp!

Ranging from just a fot or so to over 8 feet tall, patches of bamboo are everywhere in the park.
